ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATION SUPPORT

Sensitive, Experienced Operated Plant for Heritage & Pre-Planning Evaluation Work

Working alongside archaeologists and heritage teams across Shropshire and the Midlands.

A machine operator who understands archaeological work

Not every plant operator is suited to archaeological excavation. It demands patience, precision and a genuine understanding of what the archaeological team is looking for — knowing when to slow down, when to switch to hand tools, and how to read ground as you go.

At Quin Plant Hire Ltd, we have hands-on experience supporting archaeological teams on evaluation, watching brief and mitigation projects across Shropshire and the surrounding region. We work to your specification, follow your site director's instruction, and take the care that heritage work demands.

If you're a field unit, heritage consultancy, or developer managing a pre-planning archaeology condition, we're the kind of local plant operator worth having on your books.

Why Shropshire Matters

Working in one of England's richest archaeological landscapes

Shropshire sits at the heart of some of Britain's most significant heritage. From the Roman remains at Wroxeter to the prehistoric earthworks of the Marches, the Iron Age hillforts of the Long Mynd and Caer Caradoc, to the medieval settlements of the Severn Valley — this is a county where pre-planning archaeology conditions are common and heritage sensitivity is high.

We understand the landscape we work in. We've operated across agricultural sites, river valleys and urban fringes across the county, and we're familiar with the expectations of the planning archaeologists and local authority heritage teams who oversee this work.

Why Work With Quin Plant Hire

What archaeological field units tell us they need — and what we deliver:

Sensitivity and control. We work at your pace, to your specification. If the site director needs the machine to stop, it stops. We're not here to rush the programme.

Experience on heritage sites. We've worked alongside archaeological teams and understand the difference between a machine driver and a machine operator who's useful on a dig.

Fast mobilisation. Based in Waters Upton, Telford, we cover Shropshire and the wider region quickly. Evaluation programmes often run to tight windows — we don't add unnecessary delay.

Fully certified. CPCS, NPORS and CSCS certified. CPA member. All paperwork available for your site files, RAMS and watching brief documents.

Direct communication. You deal directly with Jonathan — the person operating the machine. No hire desk, no miscommunication, no surprises on site.

Competitive rates. JCB 3CX at £480/day. Mini digger at £360/day. We're happy to discuss rates for longer programmes or repeat bookings.

Coverage Area

We regularly support archaeological projects across:

Shropshire · Telford & Wrekin · Staffordshire · Cheshire · West Midlands · Welsh Borders

For projects further afield, please get in touch — we're happy to discuss mobilisation.
